San Zhi

San Zhi is like a ghost town out of a futuristic movie or novel but it is actually an abandoned tourist city in the north of Taiwan.

The idea behind San Zhi was to build futuristic pods that would act as summer retreats for those who are affluent, an idea that was well received and gained financial backing from the government so started to become a reality.

There is much speculation and legend associated with what caused San Zhi to end up in the way it is now. The most common and laudable is that a number of fatal accidents happened during the construction of these pod like homes which stopped production and caused the government who comissioned and provided funding to distance itself and stop financial backing.

The speculation goes further to say that the whole episode of fatal accidents along with the design and construction of these retreats was covered up so today no one knows much about what exactly happened or even who the architects of the project were.

The area has no redevelopment value except for rebuilding for tourism purposes but the legend says this will not happen as the ghosts of those who fell victim to the fatal accidents still roam San Zhi.

  1. This is really eerie!!! No one believes in ghosts any more. I say go in there and try again.

  2. I say its a gold mine for the non-supersticious. But then again me saying that could be the cliche start of another horror story.
